East Kootenay Teacher Education and the Role of Mentor Teachers

The East Kootenay Teacher Education Program (EKTEP) prepares future educators through a combination of coursework, field experiences, and classroom practicums. These experiences help teacher candidates connect educational theory to the realities of teaching while developing the skills needed to support diverse learners.

A critical part of this journey is the support provided by Mentor Teachers. As experienced classroom educators, Mentor Teachers guide teacher candidates through their practicum experiences by modeling effective teaching practices, sharing professional knowledge, and providing constructive feedback.

Mentor Teachers help candidates develop confidence, refine their instructional skills, and gain a deeper understanding of classroom management, assessment, and student engagement. Their mentorship creates a supportive environment where future teachers can learn, reflect, and grow as professionals.

By welcoming teacher candidates into their classrooms, Mentor Teachers make a lasting contribution to the teaching profession. Their commitment helps prepare the next generation of educators and strengthens educational communities throughout the East Kootenay region.

The East Kootenay Teacher Education Program is grateful for the time, expertise, and dedication Mentor Teachers invest in supporting future teachers and fostering excellence in education.
